Search Me and Know My Heart
In Psalm139 the Psalmist reflected on how God knows everything about us, he knows our thoughts, our words, our actions, our coming and going. God also designed us, created us, forming and shaping us in our mothers womb. God literally knows every detail of our life, including if there is any “offensive way” in us. In Psalm 139:23-24 the Psalmist writes “search me God, and know my heart.” Of course God already knows our heart, that was already established in verse 1. What the Psalmist is doing is inviting God to peer into his heart (even though God already has), and reveal anything to him that is not in alignment with God’s will. This has historically been called an examination of conscience. We intentionally take time to examine our hearts, and allow God to point out anything in us which is not from him, so that we can confess it, repent of it, and be forgiven and healed, so that we are restored into right relationship with God.
