Fearful Thoughts
Often when we experience fear and anxiety they can feel overwhelming. Our thoughts are continually on whatever is causing our fear. We can’t shake it. Our heart races, our stomach churns, we can’t sleep, among many other physical and emotional effects. In Isaiah 12:2, God’s Word reminds us that when I trust in the Lord as my savior, my strength and my defense, I will not fear. Trust in God and fear are antithetical because when we truly trust in God we believe he will help us, protect us, and give us what we need when we need it. He will not let anything overwhelm us. He promises that he will be with us even when we go through situations which cause fear within us, as God reminds us in Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
What are your thoughts mostly focused on? That which you fear, or God and His truth, which gives us peace? How will you fill your mind and dwell on God and His truth, rather than on that which is causing your fear?
Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
